What is WARPSimLab?

WARPSimLab is an educational personal finance simulation tool designed to help users explore long-term financial scenarios involving income, expenses, portfolios, and retirement timelines.

What can a personal finance simulator be used for?

A personal finance simulator can be used to explore how different assumptions about income, expenses, and investment returns affect long-term financial outcomes over time.

Is WARPSimLab a retirement simulator?

WARPSimLab can be used to explore retirement scenarios by modeling savings, withdrawals, and portfolio behavior over time.

Are the simulation results predictions of the future?

No. The results generated by WARPSimLab are hypothetical simulations based on user inputs and model assumptions. They are not predictions, guarantees, or forecasts of actual future financial outcomes.

Do the simulations include every real-world factor?

No. The models used in WARPSimLab are simplified representations of financial systems and may omit important real-world factors.

How does the simulation work?

WARPSimLab runs year-by-year simulations of income, expenses, taxes, and portfolio balances based on user-defined inputs and assumptions.

The model is a simplified representation of financial systems and is intended for educational exploration rather than precise forecasting.

What simulation methods are available?

The default approach uses historical window analysis, applying the same plan across many rolling historical periods to show how outcomes depend on market timing and economic conditions.

Monte Carlo simulation is also available, generating multiple simulated return paths to illustrate a range of possible outcomes under different market conditions.

Does WARPSimLab provide financial advice?

No. It should not be used for financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. It is an educational tool.

Should I use WARPSimLab to make financial decisions?

WARPSimLab is intended for educational exploration only. It should not be used as the basis for financial, investment, tax, or retirement decisions. It is designed to illustrate how financial outcomes vary under different assumptions over time.

Why does WARPSimLab exist?

I searched for a free personal finance simulator for several years and couldn’t find one that met my needs. As a software engineer approaching retirement, I wanted a challenging project that combined my interests in personal finance, software development, and AI. WARPSimLab is the result.

Where should I go for financial advice?

Users should consult qualified financial, tax, or legal professionals before making decisions related to their personal finances.

Does WARPSimLab run in a browser?

No. The simulator runs locally on the user's computer rather than in a web browser. It does not intentionally transmit user-entered financial data to the website, the developer, or the internet.

What platforms are supported?

Windows is currently available. macOS and Linux releases are planned for later.

Does the website collect data from the application?

No application data is intentionally sent back to the website or anywhere else on the internet.

Does the website collect download statistics?

When the application is downloaded, an anonymous download counter may be incremented to measure general usage of the site. No personal information or application data is collected.

Why doesn`t WARPSimLab connect to financial accounts?

WARPSimLab is designed as a simulation and educational modeling tool rather than an account-tracking service. Users enter simplified financial assumptions so they can explore how financial systems behave over time.

Why doesn`t WARPSimLab model individual stocks or bonds?

WARPSimLab focuses on high-level financial behavior rather than individual investment selection. Users define simplified assumptions about portfolio returns and allocation so they can explore how financial systems behave over time, without focusing on specific securities.

Do you sell or share my data?

No personal or financial data is collected or transmitted by the simulator. Because no user data is collected, there is no data to sell or share.

Is WARPSimLab free?

WARPSimLab is free and will remain free permanently.

Is WARPSimLab open source?

The WARPSimLab program is released under an MIT License. See LICENSE.txt in the download package for the full license terms. The source code is not currently distributed with the application.

May I have the source code?

The source code is not available.

Where should new users start?

New users should start with the Tutorials tab in the application.

Where do I find full legal terms?

The complete legal disclaimer and terms of use are on the legal page.
